We live in such a world that our attention is sadly not ours anymore. We always have and still have a choice to put our attention where we want to, but it has become increasingly harder to do so. We are trained to have much shorter attention spans by our everyday apps like facebook, instangram, tiktok and so on. We fail as people to recognise that our constant usage of these apps and more (our phone is a culprit as well) is constantly affecting us and taking control of our attention away from us. Do I have your attention now? How can we change that? Let’s explore this together. From my awareness the first thing we can control is the source of news and information that we get every day. We can keep getting information from these platforms (what their algorithms feed us) or we can consciously choose the platforms. Diversification is a key here. If we only use a platform we will probably be subject and a slave to that specific platform. We should choose different news outlets, for a more detailed example, I personally get news from Deutsche Welle, Fox news, Cnbc and others. I choose those to keep updated with world news. Deutsche Welle to get information for Germany, where I live. Cnbc and Bloomberg to get market updates. Fox news to get contrarian beliefs regardless if I don’t support them.
What can you and should you do? You should explore and choose different platforms. Not only the ones that fit with your beliefs, you don’t want to keep supporting a bubble that others will manage. You should diversify and get information from different sources so you ensure you understand different views and opinions. There is never one side of things. There is never one right or wrong. Information can change your perception on every single news out there sadly. The goal of others is to emotionally engage us and through our emotions manage us. We live in such an extreme world. There are too few people that will truly listen today and far less that will hear opinions rather than stating theirs. This is a value that we need to train constantly, you will understand the benefits of listening from your peers, you will understand the value of hearing different perspectives through experience and experience alone.
This is a first template to push forward some of my world views. As such, be gentle and try to help me rather than judging these thoughts.I personally feel that there is a need for these thoughts to be out there in this world of ours. I keep hearing from friends and relatives, how stressed they are and keep seeing how bad the world situation is getting economically, politically and life wise. The change comes from us and none else. We need to manage ourselves and world views, none else. I get the sense a lot of times that depression and stress nowadays have become such huge issues exactly because people are trained to have such short attention spans and they are not able to control them. You and I should get back control of our attention and as a result get control of our world view. It’s a hard path that you will have to be responsible for, none else can do it better or in a way that benefits you more.
